Drummond Takes First Loss Against Kearns of Salt Lake City

April 14, 2007

Pocatello, ID - The first year Drummond rugby program wasted no time in signing up to challenge the premier ranks of USA high school rugby. On Saturday April 14, 2007 Drummond travelled to Pocatello Idaho to square off against Kearns Rugby Club from Salt Lake City. Kearns is a regularly scheduled opponent of the 16 time high school national champion Highland Rugby Club.

Drummond showed some fight and some of the newcomers made an immediate impact, but mistakes proved to be very costly for Drummond. Three of the four trys scored by the Kearns club were direct results of Drummond mistakes. The fourth came from Kearns hammering the Drummond weak side with their 8-man off the scrum.

Key Drummond players were man-of-the-match Casey Clark (#9) who ably stepped in at Scrumhalf for the injured Levi Parker, Flyhalf Petey Carillo (#10) had a couple of brilliant runs deep into Kearns territory before leaving with a shoulder injury, and speedy Tel Renolds (#13) filled Carillo's old spot at Outside Center making everyone else on the field look slow, and chasing down many of the Kearns breakaways in the process.

Ultimately, the difference in experience proved to be key in the Kearns win. The Drummond club suffered both their first loss and first shutout in the 24-0 final talley.
